3 Resources for Black and BIPOC Founders in the New Orleans Startup Ecosystem

New Orleans has a growing entrepreneurial ecosystem built on the belief that innovation comes from diverse perspectives and experiences. For Black and BIPOC founders, finding the right support network, mentorship, and resources can make a significant difference when turning an idea into a thriving business.


Fortunately, organizations across the city are working to create more equitable pathways to entrepreneurship. Whether you're just beginning to explore a business idea or looking to scale an existing venture, these three resources can help you take the next step.


IDEAfuel

IDEAfuel is a venture accelerator from The Idea Village designed to support Black founders and founders of color as they grow their businesses and build momentum.

The program provides selected founders with:

  • $15,000 in non-dilutive funding

  • One-on-one mentorship

  • Workshops and business development support

  • Access to The Idea Village's network and entrepreneurial community

IDEAfuel helps founders strengthen their businesses through practical guidance, funding, and connections that can support long-term growth. The program is open to IDEAinstitute alumni or founders who commit to completing IDEAinstitute if selected. For entrepreneurs ready to take the next step, IDEAfuel offers an opportunity to gain resources, build relationships, and accelerate their venture.

Applications for the 2026 cohort are open through July 6, 2026.

 

Startup Noir NOLA

Startup Noir NOLA is dedicated to celebrating, connecting, and supporting Black entrepreneurs throughout Greater New Orleans. The organization showcases local success stories, highlights opportunities within the startup ecosystem, and helps founders connect with one another through events and networking opportunities.

Startup Noir NOLA helps entrepreneurs by:

  • Sharing inspiring founder and startup stories

  • Promoting funding and business opportunities

  • Connecting founders to local resources

  • Hosting events that build community and collaboration

By bringing entrepreneurs together and increasing visibility for Black-owned startups, Startup Noir NOLA continues to strengthen New Orleans' growing startup ecosystem.

 
 

Propeller

Propeller is a nonprofit organization that helps entrepreneurs and nonprofits create positive change while growing successful organizations.

Through accelerator programs, workshops, technical assistance, and coworking opportunities, Propeller supports founders who are working to address challenges in areas such as:

  • Economic development

  • Education

  • Food access

  • Health

  • Environmental sustainability

Propeller has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs across New Orleans access resources, develop their businesses, and create meaningful impact in their communities. In addition to its programs, Propeller provides a collaborative environment where founders can learn from one another, build connections, and access support throughout their entrepreneurial journey.
