Meet Our Marketing Intern: The First Two Weeks
Learning, Creating, and Growing
Starting a new internship is always exciting, but stepping into The Idea Village has been especially rewarding. Over the past two weeks, I've had the opportunity to learn about New Orleans' entrepreneurial ecosystem, contribute to real marketing projects, and see firsthand how a nonprofit organization supports founders as they build and grow their businesses.
Although my first week was remote, I never felt disconnected from the team. My supervisor, Sydney, made sure I had a strong introduction to The Idea Village by walking me through the organization's mission, programs, and the role it plays in supporting entrepreneurs across the Greater New Orleans region. Before diving into projects, I spent time learning about the different accelerator programs, the startup ecosystem, and how The Idea Village works alongside founders from the earliest stages of their entrepreneurial journeys. It quickly became clear that the organization is about much more than startups, but it's also about creating opportunities, building community, and helping entrepreneurs succeed.
One of the highlights of my first week was sitting in on a Public Relations and Partnerships (PPR) meeting. It was interesting to see how much collaboration goes into every initiative, from planning events to discussing marketing strategies and community partnerships. Watching these conversations unfold gave me a better understanding of how different teams work together to tell The Idea Village's story and connect founders with valuable resources. It also showed me that behind every social media post, blog, or event is a thoughtful strategy designed to create meaningful impact.
As I became more familiar with the organization, I began working on marketing projects of my own. Using Canva, I designed graphics and social media content promoting programs like IDEAfuel, METRONOME, and IDEAinstitute, as well as upcoming events such as Pitch Night. I also had the opportunity to research social media strategies, write blog posts for The Idea Village's website, and think about how different types of content can engage founders at various stages of their entrepreneurial journey. Every project challenged me to think creatively while making sure the messaging stayed true to The Idea Village's brand and mission.
One thing I've especially appreciated is the trust I've been given throughout the internship. Rather than simply assigning tasks, Sydney has encouraged me to share my ideas and approach projects creatively while providing guidance whenever I need it. Having the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way has helped me grow more confident in both my marketing skills and my ability to create content with a purpose.
During my second week, I visited The Idea Village office for the first time, and it made the experience feel even more real. The office has a welcoming and collaborative atmosphere where everyone is passionate about supporting entrepreneurs and each other. Meeting the team in person reinforced what I had already experienced remotely. Everyone is approachable, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping one another succeed. It didn't take long to feel like part of the team.
Looking back, it's amazing how much I've learned in just two weeks. Beyond developing new skills in content creation, design, and marketing strategy, I've gained a deeper appreciation for the work that goes into building a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. Every conversation, meeting, and project has helped me better understand how organizations like The Idea Village empower founders and strengthen the New Orleans community.
Looking Ahead
As I continue my internship, I'm excited to take on new projects and continue supporting The Idea Village's marketing efforts. From designing social media campaigns and creating digital content to learning more about New Orleans' entrepreneurial ecosystem, every experience has helped me grow as both a marketer and a communicator.
My first two weeks have already reinforced the value of collaboration, creativity, and community. I'm looking forward to continuing to develop my skills, contribute to meaningful projects, and support an organization that is making a lasting impact on entrepreneurs across New Orleans.
