Marketing and Communications Intern

The Idea Village is recruiting a Marketing and Communications Intern to work with our in-house communications team to support efforts that build brand awareness, promote and generate leads for our entrepreneurial programs, support the organization’s thought leadership, and cultivate audience for small and large events throughout the year.

The Marketing and Communications Intern position is a 4-6 month part-time role that reports to the Strategic Marketing Associate and supervised by the Director of Community and Communications, based in New Orleans, LA, during the Fall, Spring, or Summer.

The Idea Village is a non-profit organization with a mission to identify, support, and retain entrepreneurial talent in New Orleans and the surrounding region. For over 20 years, The Idea Village has served over 16,000 entrepreneurs by providing support to select companies and startups that have the potential to drive meaningful economic development. As an organization, we work to harness the power of innovation and specialized networks in support of high-growth entrepreneurship in New Orleans and the surrounding region. We do so by mobilizing a village of people who are relentlessly resourceful and committed to building industry-leading companies. Duties and Responsibilities

Individual Donor, Sponsorship, and Campaign Support:

  • Design creative graphics for various uses to promote multiple programs through Canva

  • Draft copy for multiple types of outlets, including but not limited to social media, newsletters, and internal communications campaigns, website, and other collateral

  • Perform database management, including but not limited to updating contacts, account team data, and event registrations; maintain the integrity of the data; take the initiative to self-review and check work for accuracy

  • Own community management of The Idea Village’s social media platforms

  • Organize and edit images for our website and social media accounts; take social media or archive photographs at live events where applicable

  • Support our live events including logistics, invitations, registration, conference materials, and on-site assistance to create a positive experience for attendees

  • Monitor press and manage clip reports for The Idea Village

  • Participate in team meetings and lead in scribing

  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates excellent command of editorial standards, along with strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

  • Proactively monitors the progress of multiple projects by tracking activities and outcomes

  • Understands marketing fundamentals with a focus on content development

  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism

  • Demonstrates leadership, maturity, and accountability

  • Experience with Canva, Slack, Google Suite, and Mailchimp

Expectations:

  • This is an unpaid internship, with the opportunity to grow with the organization over time

  • 10-15 hours per week  is expected; Most interns set up a schedule for 2-3 afternoons per week in-office, with additional work completed remotely

  • A minimum 4-month commitment is requested; a custom contract can be structured with your direct supervisor

  • You will be expected to work on your own laptop; additional technology may be available to support your work while in-office
