DIGITALMEDIAx, a joint project of The Idea Village and NOLA Media Group, is a 12-week accelerator program for up to 5 New Orleans founders with solutions that empower, engage and inform a local audience by providing innovative information solutions readily accessible on a mobile platform. Central to the program is a curated network of business experts available to participating founders.

The Details

  • Perks of the Program

    In addition to critical business resources, DIGITALMEDIAx participants have exclusive access to the following:

    • Peer Learning: A 3-day bootcamp kicks off the DIGITALMEDIAx program gathering the full cohort together with experts to educate the founders on what they know well and how to best leverage the weeks ahead. Throughout the program, bi-weekly cohort dinners will be hosted to provide participants the opportunity to share experiences and learn from each other.
    • Coaching: Each DIGITALMEDIAx founder will meet weekly with the program's dedicated Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR), who will help them hone in on key aspects of their business as well as navigate and prioritize mentor network.
    • Mentorship: Central to the development of companies going through DIGITALMEDIAx is surrounding them with great mentors. The mentor network is a curated group of the best local and national business experts committed to helping founders accelerate immediate and long-term growth.
    • Exposure: Participants' entrepreneurial journeys are chronicled over the 12 weeks by reporters, through editorial stories and video, to give a behind the scenes look at what it's like to be an entrepreneur in New Orleans. The experience culminates with a Demo Day – a showcase pitch to a network of industry leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, and media.
    • Funding and Incubation: The winner of the DIGITALMEDIAx Demo Day will receive $1,000 in cash, free office space in NOLA Media Group's One Canal Place newsroom from January-March 2017 and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity networking roadshow in New York City sponsored by Advance Local.

  • Eligibility

    In order to be eligible for DIGITALMEDIAx, your business must:

    • Be organized as a for-profit.
    • Offer a new/novel solution in the digital media industry that empowers, engages and informs local audiences by providing information solution readily accessible on a mobile platform.
    • Have a scalable model that has the potential for rapid audience growth in the first 18 months.
    • Be located in the 10-parish Greater New Orleans region (Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington).
    • Generate less than $1 million in annual revenue.
    • Have fewer than 5 full-time employees.

  • Selection Criteria

    The DIGITALMEDIAx selection process is meant to assess companies across a wide range of criteria. The goal is to identify founders of integrity and grit, with highly scalable ventures, who are committed to New Orleans. Areas of emphasis include:

    • Past experiences, leadership history, and skills of the management team.
    • The potential business opportunity, including market size, potential to scale globally, barriers to entry, and competition.
    • Existing product-market fit and traction, timeline and hurdles to a market-ready product.
    • Go-to-market strategy.
    • Viability, reality, and defensibility of the Business Model.
    • Dedicated to making New Orleans a better place.
  • Selection Process

    After candidates submit an application, our team will follow a standard review process that takes between 2-4 weeks to complete with initial interviews occurring on a rolling basis beginning August 1st.

    First Round Interview: Applicants aligned with DIGITALMEDIAx qualification criteria will be invited in for an initial interview to discuss their business, background, and goals.

    Due Diligence: The Idea Village will do a little digging, following up with the applicant’s references, testing assumptions, etc.

    Final Interview: Select candidates will be invited back to interview with a committee who will assess their character, business, and fit for the program.

    Selection: Committee chairs will work with The Idea Village team and the dedicated DIGITALMEDIAx Entrepreneur-in-Residence to select up to 5 founders to join the program. All applicants will be notified of their selection no later than August 27th.
